Is it okay to wear a pair of slightly bigger running shoes?

Hi,

I'm 14 and a girl. I wear women shoes size 7 %26amp; my parents bought a pair of 7.5 Nike running shoes to make it last longer because my feet are still growing. My heel slips in these and they feel much bigger. They feel bulky. Is it okay to wear these on my next 7k race?

yes it is ok. One thing you can do is wear more than one pair of socks. Add them until you feel a snug fit
Reply:They are okay if you like blisters.
Reply:yup, it's fine. if they bother you because they slip a lot, lace them up a little tighter. actually, I run in an 8.5, but my real foot size is 7 or 7.5; I do that so 1. my feet have room to grow %26amp; 2. it's more comfortable for me. it's up to you whether you like it or not, but there should always be at least a finger width of space between your toes %26amp; the toe of the shoe.
Reply:ya, its ok to wear running shoes a 1/2 to a size bigger than normal. when you run, your feet will swell. when your feet start to swell during your race, you wont notice, but the extra room in your shoes will be good for it. once they do swell, you wont notice the size in your running shoes.
Reply:Here is a lacing tip from runnersworld.

Here's how to combat the problem. First, buy shoes that are wide enough in the forefoot. Then lace up your shoes as usual, but when you get to the next to last eyelet from the top, thread each lace end through the top eyelet on that same side. This forms a small loop. Next, thread the lace ends through the opposite loops and tie your shoes as you normally would. This will provide a tighter fit at the top of your shoes and keep your heels more snug.
Reply:Well you always want your running shoe to be a bit larger because your foot does move around while you are moving bc the last thing you want is to be stuck in a 7k with too small of shoes. But if your heels are getting soar from being rubbed and you are getting blisters consider this: Are the socks you are wearing not high enough? Do you need inserts? And if your answer is no to that then i think you have too big of a shoe.
Reply:NO!

if your shoes do not fit (either too big or too small) they will not work!! too small and you will damge your foot, too large and your foot will slip and the support will not work.

Lacing technqiues will help a good fitting shoes fit better but will not make a bad fitting shoe fit

Though running shoes seem expensive,

it is not worth risking the damage caused by bad fitting shoes.

they are only good for (approx) 350 miles which even as a teenager you will run that b4 you outgrow them

your school will have a discount arrangement with a local running shop

speak to your cach and parents, put your oversize shoes to one side 'till you grow into them adn get a new pair that fits.

I almost had to quit running last year due to the wrong shoes (only runnign causly 12 miels/week) I now place in top 10% of my age group - it is worth the money!!
