Is there anything useful that can be done with old running shoes?

I have a pile of running shoes that are no longer good for running and am curious if there's anything productive that can be done with them instead of throwing all of them away. I can use a few for household chores, etc. but really have too many to justify holding on to all of them. Any ideas are appreciated!

I have had many piles of shoes, too; I would hold onto them and then throw out a whole bunch at once when I got frustrated enough.

The old shoes are blown out and might not be so good for others to wear (but may be better than nothing).

maybe there's a good place on this site for recycling:

Reply:try using the around the garden for planters, tuck the laces in spray paint them any colors you wish fill them with dirt and flowers spread them around the yard there neat accessories to the everyday garden.

2.Gardening shoes.

3. Donate them.
Reply:You can donate them to a good cause, like the link below :)
Reply:Many running stores have boxes you can donate the shoes to the homeless.
Reply:I tend to use them to make garden ornaments. Take an old black bin, fill with the shoes, leave at teh end of the garden; looks absolutely lovely. Only problem is some wanker keeps stealing the shoes out of the bin, he doesn't even do it discretely drives right up in a massive truck.
