How do I pick running shoes (for long distance) and what are the price ranges?

I need a good (not expensive) pair of running shoes that won't cause the foot problems I am having now. What are brand name suggestions and types and maybe stores that specialize in it?

How do I pick running shoes (for long distance) and what are the price ranges?
The first thing I would ask is what kind of foot problems do you have?

Overpronation (ankle rolls in)? Suppination (ankle rolls out)?

If thats the case you need shoes with motion control

New balance are great for that. Nike Structure Triax are good, they fit a bit snug if you have a wider foot. Nike is made for the long and narrow foot.

New Balance is good for someone who has a wider foot, motion control issues, heavier (200pounds+) You cant really go worng with New Balance. They fit true to size. I dont know why that one person said get half a size bigger, In fact, you may need to go half a size smaller.

Check out http://www.eastbay.com

They have an outlet section, but New Balance are usually under $80, same with Ascics and Saucony. But for a good overall shoe, NB cant be beat.

I have been a distance runner for over 10 years. Competed in high school and college in both Canada and USA.

Reply:i suggest a good named brand. They will cost more but makers like Addidas have been making them for years, Don't go for a hed sole as they can damage your hips when you run. Try to get a softer spongy sole.
Reply:Go To Tom Mcanans
Reply:Have you tried these new places, they call them malls, they're very helpfull for questions such as these. Dumbass.
Reply:Don't listen to the dumbass who gave you the mall answer. Don't go to the mall. You need to find a specialty running store in your area. They will analyze your gate and look at your feet to decide what shoe is right for you. You cannot pick a shoe based on the brand, though the safest bets are Asics or Brooks, who dominate the running shoe market. You will need to choose a shoe based on the "category" of runner you are (overpronator, neutral, supenator. you cannot know this on your own; someone needs to watch you run). Once you know what category you are in, based on your gate analysis, you will automatically eliminate 2/3 of your shoe options. You will then look for what shoe fits your foot shape best (ie wide, high arch, slim heel). Basically a running store employee will narrow down your options and you will decide from those options which shoe feels the best. It is their job to make sure that mechanically it will work for you.

As far as price goes, most of these shoes run about $90. If you don't want to pay full price ask if they have any old models in your size that might work. Or, after finding what shoe works for you look online for it. Some online shoe companies carry a huge stock (try eastbay).
Reply:avia is a nice but cheap priced brand like 60 bucks
Reply:i would go with new balance, i love them. they are very sturdy, and give a great amount of suport, i would go about a half size larger than you need, or try to find your size in a wide. but you want them a little snug for running, the better the grip the less risk you have of coming out of them, or twisting your ankle
Reply:pick asics they r good and r pretty high in money though but the shoes r definently worth it.
