Which sporting goods stores have running "experts" that can help me choose the right running shoes?

What about Modells? BTW the closest running specialty store is like 15 miles away and I'm not willing to go that far. Please Help! I need new running shoes since spring track practice starts next month! And how much does a good pair of running shoes cost? My limit is $60.

Go to the specialty running store in your area. 15 miles is a short distance for the investment in getting the right shoe. These stores generally are run by and hire experienced runners who know running/racing.

Sporting goods stores are hit-and-miss as to whether the person has the "been-there, done-that" experience that will put YOU in the right shoe. They may be well-meaning individuals, but that isn't what you want from an expert. You want expertise/experience.

A good running store wants to build a long-term relationship with runners and make you a repeat customer. They can only do that (and compete with the bigger stores) by giving you top quality advice and put you in the right shoe. They will evaluate your gait, pace, running style and intended goals/plans for the track season. They will want to see your foot (especially your arch) and asses other physical characteristics.

Bring in your current running shoes. They can evaluate the type of wear pattern your shoes show to determine the right shoe for you as well. A lot of people run/race in the wrong shoe.

Take the time and do it right, and your $60 will be wisely invested and not wasted
Reply:***** Sporting Goods, I work there and see such great work they do, good pair of running shoes will go from 60-100 bucks unfortunately
Reply:Look, the single largest investment in running is for shoes. And the shoes either work or don't work. Shoes that don't work ruin your feet and cause pain and problems.

GET TO A RUNNERS' STORE or find someone who is a runner and get opinions.

You need to be concerned about toe box height, type of last, and be sure that when you try on the shoe, standing with your weight full on one foot, there is a FULL half inch between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.

Good Luck
Reply:Hi there!

I work for a running shoe company and the run specialty stores really are the best place to go. The people that work there are usually runners and well trained in matching you to the right shoes for your body type and running style.

If you really can't go there and want to go to a big sporting goods store, insist on talking to a sales person who knows a lot about running and a lot about fitting shoes to your feet.

As for price, you can get pretty good running shoes for $60-$70 on sale. Do some research online at www.runnersworld.com for advice before you shop.

You can get injured by wearing the wrong shoes, and you'll be running a lot, so shop smart! And have a great track season!
Reply:i do not know where you live, in my area the running center at Redlands is the best.

trainers or spikes: $50
Reply:Fleet Feet. It's amazing. They're really good. I bought my racing spikes there. They measure both feet and the arch height and such. Also they show you several different shoes that would be the most beneficial as to what kind of running. [Sprinting, Mid-distance, Long, Jumpers, and such] They also have a good selection for trainers.
