What features should I look for in good running shoes?

I'm planning on running a marathon next year, and wondering what features I should be looking for in a pair of running shoes to best suit the role, e.g. flexibility, materials?

I want my feet to be comfortable, even while running on hard surfaces like tarmac and concrete.

Price isn't really a concern - I'd be willing to pay upwards of 100 euro, or 140 dollars for a decent pair of shoes.

go to a good running shoe store. Try on different shoes until you find a pair that fits your foot.

All major brands make good shoes. Be sure you get a shoe that is made for your size and weight, has enough cushion and support.

You should get about 500 miles out of a new pair, but it is best to own a couple of pair so you do not wear the same shoes all of the time.

Get at least 2 pair and swap out every few days.

You will need a different pair for the race, which will be a lighter shoe.
Reply:go to a good running store. try on a bunch of different shoes you like. asics is a really good brand. they have a running shoe finder thing on www.runnersworld.com
Reply:the first thing you should do is go to a reputable running store. You need to get a pair of shoes that fit your foot. Everyone is different and your foot might over pronate etc. Each shoe is made to suit what kind of foot you have. If it is a good store, you might be put on a tredmill and video taped running. That way the professional can determine the way your foot works. Also explain how many miles you plan on running, and what surfaces you are going to be running on. You will surly be fitted into a nice pair of shoes. $140 will be enough for a quality pair of shoes. If you have the urge to spend a tad bit more, i would suggest investing in a few pairs of good running socks. This will help prevent blisters and pains on your toes. This will especially help if you plan on running long distances. I hope I helped you out! Good luck in your marathon!!!!!
Reply:When looking for a running shoe you want to make sure the bottom of the sole is in a "waffle" shape. That means that when you turn the shoe over there are horizotal lines and virtical lines both (some shoes might have designs and thats ok) to make a "waffle' shape.

heres a tip. Even though shocks are known for running shoes, they are really heavy to run in. I suggest Asics for Pumas.
