Nike Shox are awesome. Expensive, but awesome. When it comes to shoes, you get what you pay for.
Reply:There is no standard shoe that will work for everyone as there is no standard foot design. Everyone's foot is different. Our feel also have bio-mechanical defects (e.g. they may not fall straight when we walk/run). These dont matter much while walking but can really be a problem while running.

Based on this and other factors you need to find what works for you. For eg. Addidas provides Coushioning shoes, and Control shoes and other variants.

If your feet are wide, Addidas is generally good. For narrow feet, Nike works well.

Regarding knees getting injured, its not only the shoes that help. The important thing is that as you become a runner, your muscle adopts to the strain more quickly than your bone and hence you may feel pain in the knees. So its important to increase your mileages slowly even if you feel you can do more.
