Overpronation, running, and shoes?

I am just wondering if getting the proper running shoes can really help that much..

As of now, whenever I run my shins hurt so bad that I have to stop... I am looking for anything to improve my running experience and time.

Overpronation, running, and shoes?
Greetings,

I am no expert, but I am an avid runner and hiker. For me, shoes make a big difference. I believe the wrong shoe type for me can be hard on my feet, knees, and legs. You should determine your foot type and buy the proper shoes. Various shoe manufacturing web sites will explain foot types. For example, New Banlance and Asics have good information, but navigating the sites may be confusing. Unfortunately, you must know your shoes before buying them in stores because I have found most retail stores do not separate running shoes into categories of cushioned, motion control, or stability. The consumer must know that before hand.

Also, I found that wearing shoe to small and the wrong width for my feet has caused me problems in the past. Now, I buy shoes that give my toes room and I have had no problems.

It requires time and patience to find the correct shoes, but it is time well spent. Also, I have bought the wrong shoes in stores because I did not have the correct information, and thus I ended up suffering with the wrong shoes for me, until I could not stand to wear them one more mile!

Good luck there.
Reply:yes, different running shoes will affect your performance. That is why running shoe companies make specific shoes for specific races, because different shoes will effect your performance, that is why pro distance runners dont wear those big, heavy, 12oz, cross training shoes in competition, they wear 3.5 oz distance flatsm because in the long run those 8.5 ozs will make a big difference especially in a race like the 3200 or up
Reply:Well first off shoes may be one factor in which you may have shin splins. I recommend wrapping ur shins with tape, that applies pressure to ur shins and relieves some of the stress. Note though not to wrap the tape too tight, and yes shoes do make a lot of difference in times. If your a distance runner, then I would recommend getting some comfy running shoes and a pair if long distance spikes for the track.
Reply:If you overpronate then I would suggest a stability shoe...I like New Balance stability shoes, I overpronate and they work well for me. I would also suggest trying to get a pair of orthodics, they can make running much more comfortable if you need them. As for the shin splints, ice your shins and take it easy for awhile it%26#039;s the only way they will get better!!Hope I helped!!!

Good Luck!!
Reply:I also overpronate. I love Brooks GTS to control it. It is a stabiltiy shoe. I have also experienced shin splints, unfortunately! I think good shoes make a big difference. But another factor was by poor running form. Good luck
