Joggers, what running shoes do you prefer and any breathing advice that does not involve heaving?

Horribly out of shape and I want to take up jogging, but as a direct result of years of sitting on my *** I have difficulty catching my breath while running and I must completely stop or die. Also, need to know what shoes are appropiate or preferable. Didnt think Id ever need breathing techniques, but apparently theres a skill to it (hey, I stopped cramming food into my mouth- so thats not it!).

Start slowly and build up. Start with walking, first, and then add running intervals once you feel comfortable. A good plan for this is the couch to 5K plan, http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/... The plan has you gradually increase your running intervals until you are running the whole time. Also, don%26#039;t feel that you have to sprint. Just run at whatever speed you can do for now. You can always get faster later.

As far as shoes, no one shoe is right for everyone. If you have a running store around like Fleet feet, for example, go to the store and they will help you get the correct shoes for your feet. If you don%26#039;t have any local stores, try the shoe dog at road runner sports http://www.roadrunnersports.com It will ask you different questions about your feet and your running, and recommend the best shoes for you.
Reply:Well for the shoes, it all depends on what kind of foot you have. flat, high arch, or regulat arch. if you have flat feet then you need some cushioning, if you have high arches then you need a shoe that has arch support, and if you have a regular arch, get a running shoe that is comfortable to you. as for everything else, try this website this is the manual for physical training that we use in the US Army. Hope this helps.

Reply:START SLOW AND BUILD YOUR WAY UP. I HAVE A TREADMILL, I STARTED WITH 5 MINUTES A DAY. IT WAS COMPLETELY UNBEARABLE. BUT HEY, I JUST HAD TWINS!! AND NOW, I CAN DO ABOUT 30 MINUTES. YOU CAN EVEN DO 10 MINUTES AND COME BACK LATER AND DO 10 MORE MINUTES. JUST START SLOW. COME ON NOW, AFTER YEARS OF SITTING ON YOUR *** DO YOU ACTUALLY THINK YOU CAN BECOME AN AVID RUNNER OVER NIGHT. JUST PACE YOURSELF. IF YOU%26#039;RE COMMITED, YOU%26#039;LL GET IT AFTER TIME.
Reply:personally i am a Nike person.i am over weight and i find it provides good support for my back when i walk.
