What are currently the best shoes for running on asphalt/pavement?

I%26#039;m a tall amateur runner with high arches. I run 5km almost daily, and right now I%26#039;m running on a pair of $30 Asics running shoes. I%26#039;m not looking to go further than 5km, but am worried about the long-term health of my knees and lower joints.

I much prefer to run outdoors and thus am limited to asphalt/paved surfaces in my neighborhood.

I%26#039;m sure that there is more than one answer to this question. I just would like to get the opinions of experienced runners with higer-end shoes. Thanks!

Probably Puma-maybe add some extra support to the sole. You could find something at Wal Mart.
Reply:There are lots of high quality runner designed for exactly what you do. What you%26#039;re best to do is go try on all kinds and brands and see what%26#039;s most comfortable for you....and I don%26#039;t mean at the discount stores....go to a reputable sports place where they know what they%26#039;re talking about.

I have a pair of runners that are $200.00 Canadian that are designated strictly to our tread-mill.....but that%26#039;s me.

Personally, the best advice I can give you is do anything possible to avoid running on pavement. Is there not a park or school field close by you can run laps in?
Reply:Take a look at this.

Hope it helps. =]
