My husband is Flat footed and bow legged. He%26#039;s looking for good running shoes that will work well with these problems. The last pair he had (i dont remember style or anything) made his knees hurt pretty bad. Are there specific brands and styles that would help prevent his knees from aching?
Best running Shoes for my bow legged/flat footed husband?
Nike Air Max , to me is consistently the most comfortable running shoe. So I%26#039;d try those (though they are a little pricey).
But even more importantly, go to Foot Locker (or sporting goods store) and get a good quality arch support foot insole. (Usually $20-$30, don%26#039;t buy that Dr. Shcholl%26#039;s crap or the ones at a market). I have had foot problems and these are awesome. My feet still hurt at times, but its a 90% difference from when I don%26#039;t use the insoles.
Reply:The Runners World web site has a lot of information on finding shoes. It would be a good idea to go to a running shoe store and get their recommendation, though. I was ready to give up running when I went to Fleet Feet and was advised to run in Adidas Supernovas.
Reply:Although I%26#039;m not bow legged, i did break my arches when I was young for wearing football boots a size too small and I underpronate. Thus, I should have a somewhat similar gate as to your husband. Recently, I%26#039;ve been running with Nike Air Pegasus (reg.s for long runs and lites for sprints), and I think that they%26#039;re as good as anything else I%26#039;ve tried. Plus, they%26#039;re only about $90, give or take. Tell him to also lay off of the concrete and clay tracks. football fields or level parks allow for all types of running to be had. As for the knees, stretch, stretch, stretch, take aspirin at the beginning, stretch, and always make sure to cover your legs when running in the cold. I can%26#039;t believe some of these boneheads who run around in their short shorts when the temperature gets anywhere under 16 C (that%26#039;s roughly 60 F).
Reply:For flat feet you need motion control shoes. Try Asics or New Balance, I am also flat footed and both brands work great!
